Abu Dhabi has just made history and has taken a major step forward in digital innovation. Passengers can now pay for their taxi rides using AE Coin through the AEC Wallet app, across all Tawasul taxis in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

This milestone is part of a broader push to improve digital payments and create a smarter, safer, and more seamless travel experience. This is the first time anywhere in the world that a stablecoin pegged to the UAE dirham is being used for public transport.
The initiative is launched by Tawasul Transport in partnership with Al Maryah Community Bank and the Integrated Transport Center (ITC).
Easy, Secure Taxi Payments with AE Coin
The AEC Wallet makes paying for taxis easy and secure, as passengers simply scan a QR code inside the vehicle to complete their ride. AE Coin is pegged 1:1 with the UAE dirham, offering price stability and boosting confidence in using digital currency.
The app is free to download on the Apple Store, Google Play, and Huawei AppGallery. It is designed for fast, low-cost transactions with strong security features. The new system supports the city’s push for digital growth and helps strengthen its role as a global leader in fintech and smart transport.

The AEC Wallet app is set to expand across more transportation services, retail stores, and merchants throughout the UAE. This will offer users greater convenience and more ways to use digital payments in their daily lives.
